- undergraduate GPA of 3.0,
- GRE general (aptitude) 1700
- Intl. students only -- TOEFL score of 550
- minimum admission requirements:
- course in high-level language; data structures; discrete math;
and full year of calculus.
- deficiency classes: (after admission, but 0 credit)
- systems program design (compiler design) (445);
- computing languages (310) [the graduate catalog incorrectly says Theory of Programming Languages];
- operating systems (341);
- files and databases (360);
- computer architecture (351);
- and any prerequisite courses to the graduate core courses

- graduate CS core (9 cr),

- research and thesis (6 cr).
- thesis defense
- non-thesis option
- 36h total
- graduate CS core (9 cr),
- focused plan of study (27 cr), (can include up to 6 credits CS580)
- comprehensive written and/or public oral examination
- PhD CS:
- 78h in consultation with committee
- 33h+ must be in courses other than CS600
- 45 is max for CS600 (may depend on dept.)
- 39h+ must be UI courses
- 2 semesters of CS501 (seminar)
- 4 of the following: CS 510, 541, 551, 581, and 590. (updated)
- 1 semester of teaching
- 2 semesters on-campus (resident campus included)
- qualifying examination (written or oral); (not needed if M.S in CS)
- dissertation
