The traditional deterrence game is the e coli of International Relations. This talk will cover the traditional deterrence game in its standard form and with assassins. The goal of the latter is to provide a formal model that can account for the assassinations of leaders by their own people (e.g., Anwar Sadat and Yitzhak Rabin) on the one hand, and the non-assassinations of leaders (e.g., Yasser Arafat), on the other.
