Balancing Security Considerations and Resources in a University Environment

Presenter: Daniel Ewart, Chief Information Officer, University of Idaho

Abstract:

Cyber security is a multi-faceted, ever-evolving field that impacts almost all operations at a research university. The very nature of a university is innovative, inquisitive, and dynamic - and filled with people who embody these traits. Universities also have massive amounts of available bandwidth, processing power and storage, making them targets for a multitude of people with varying intentions. Combining that available power with the decentralized nature of security and responsibility at a large institution creates significant challenges in aligning the requirements for security with organizational goals and the very culture of the organization. "Balancing Security Considerations and Resources in a University Environment" will discuss some of these organizational challenges and how UI - and the higher education industry in general Ð is adapting to the rapidly changing requirements for security.
