Intellectual Property Law for Computer Science Majors

Abstract:

This lecture is a short introduction to issues in the law of intellectual property that should be of particular interest to computer programmers. Topics include the relationship between the IP system and innovation; trade secrets and non-competes; copyrights in code; the Gnu GPL and other commons-based software licensing regimes; and software patents.

Biography:

Annemarie Bridy is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Idaho College of Law. She specializes in Internet and intellectual property law, with specific attention to the impact of disruptive technologies on existing frameworks for the protection of intellectual property and the enforcement of intellectual property rights.
