Abstract: Evolution is very simple process of repeated selection and reproduction with variation but when viewed as an algorithm it can be a very powerful tool for adaptation and optimization. We will discuss what are evolutionary algorithms and how they work. Then we will look at example of where EC is used in science and industry to solve real world problems. Finally, we will show what research projects are going on in evolutionary computation at the University of Idaho.
