Meeting Minutes Purpose: Talk to Cody. Talk about questions team has. Go over website. Look at vision statement/team values. Plan for this next week. Date: 8/30/07 Time: 2:00-2:45 PM Location: Dr. Junk’s Office JEB 324 Attendees: Dr. Junk, Frank, Michael, Ryan, and Andrew Recorder: Andrew Summary of Items Discussed: 2:00 PM – Cody called in to talk to team. Cody will be out of town next week, so concept presentation will have to be postponed until the following week. Cody will be there. Discussed questions with Cody- Ryan pointed out that one core of the PS3 Cell processor is disabled, but Cody already knew that. Frank asked Cody about parallelizing the AES algorithm and how we wanted to do it on the cores. Basically we came to the conclusion that we will be pipelining the algorithm more that parallelizing it, because of the bus structure with the Cell. Cody suggested we implement AES block cipher first and then move onto doing a streaming version if time permits and makes sense. The team then talked about PS3 and what we have done with it so far: i.e. powered up / booted into Linux / looked at Yellow Dog’s attributes. Group asked Cody why he chose Yellow Dog: It has been popularly ported to PS3 and has lots of documentation on the Internet. Mike mentioned wanting to compare AES implementation on PS3 processor to Intel quad core chip. Want to test specialized bus and parallelization mostly but would be a good thing to try after bench mark tests have been performed. Dr. Junk asked if AES posed a problem to implement, but team doesn’t think so. Cody asked us what language we would be using: Mainly C probably. Cody mentioned IBM has SDK that can be used for developing on normal PC. Cody will send link to SDK. Cody also asked about documentation of code. Team will probably use Doxygen. End of talk with Cody 2:15 PM – Talked with Dr. Junk about ugly summers Dr. Junk asked what people did this week: Andrew- AES and PS3 research Frank- Cell processor research Ryan- PS3 research Mike- Fine-tuning website Dr. Junk mention the Dr. Hiromoto specializes in parallel algorithms and may be some help. We can bring whoever we think might be interested to team presentations. Dr. Junk talked about PRS – Make sure we log hours before midnight on Wednesdays. Dr. Junk mentioned the SEL is offering internships to anyone who might be interested. --MAY LEAD TO JOB! We looked at the team website. We looked over vision statement: Should add something about benefiting personally from experience by learning/working with team/struggles we might learn from and benefits overall from working on project. We looked over our team values: Quality- It’s hard to attain perfect quality so we should reword it. Communication- Bring customer into project more. Documentation- Also include design/algorithm/code Consistency- “Has potential” – add something about commitment to team/project. We looked at milestones: They should only of due date. We looked at minutes link: should also include agendas/power point presenations/word documents. Don’t use Office 2007. We looked at wiki on website. It is working so far. Talked about what we need to research: Look at AES, SDK How much code does AES take? NIST has full AES package We want to test NIST package by Wednesday. We talked about “From” header on email. It should be working now. They are still looking for CVS Repository. 2:45 PM- End of Meeting Action Items: -We need to do more research and try to gather all of our information onto the wiki. -We need to test the NIST AES package and see if we can get it running by next Wednesday. -Work on Concept Presentation -Correct Vision statement and team values. -Get milestones up -Get timeline up -Make sure meeting minutes are able to be displayed properly.
