Meeting Minutes Purpose: Initial meeting with Dr. Junk to discuss project requirements/goals and to meet customer. Date: 8/23/07 Time: 2:00-3:00 PM Location: Dr. Junk’s Office JEB 324 Attendees: Dr. Junk, Frank, Michael, Ryan, and Andrew Recorder: Andrew Summary of Items Discussed: 2:00 PM – We discussed what everyone had been doing during the week. Ryan – Researching PS3 CPU/Hardware Andrew – AES encryption algorithm/implementation Frank – Communication via email with Cody Michael – Website construction/design Dr. Junk had us look through class website and described various aspects about project requirements. Discussed meeting minutes, team roles, and agenda requirements. Discussed project vision statement requirements Discussed team value statement requirements 2:15 PM- Cody called in and talked to us about PS3 project. Project is to get AES running in parallel mode on Linux using Cell processor in PS3. 8 core processor- 2 cores for OS and 6 cores for user applications Talked about the project being largely an algorithm problem. Main purpose is to see where encryption will go for multi-core processors and how feasible it is to expect performance increases using the same standards only in a parallelized mode. Frank asked if they wanted specific types of software run. Basically want to test capabilities of cell processor and document efficiency differences of nonparallel and parallel algorithms of AES. Start with benchmarks for off the shelf AES algorithm. Michael asked when we would get PS3- likely next Monday. Will probably store in CSDS.
