Some Project 4 Topic Suggestions
Evolutionary Computation
Spring 2014
- The Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO)
sponsers annual competitions, problems to be solved via evolutionary computatio$
The 2014 competition problems are listed at
http://www.sigevo.org/gecco-2014/competitions.html
- Similarly, the IEEE Conference on Evolutionary Computation (CEC)
has its own set of competitions:

- Compare two variations of an evolutionary algorithm
(e.g. GP versus Cartesion GP) on a particular problem. Start with a
specific hypothesis regarding which technique should work better an why.
- For graduate students, apply evolutionary computation to a problem
from your graduate research area.
- Further test the hypothesized causes of code growth (including more
recent ones proposed by Poli et al.)
- Examine the role of diverse training sets on overfitting and
generalization.
- Using a simulator try evolving
